NorCal Nevada Season Continues with Rockville

The 2016 portion of this cyclocross season continues starting this Sunday (3 January) with the Rockville Bike CycloXross Series. Racing begins 9am at Solano Community College, Fairfield. The late-season cyclocross takes place weekly on Sundays until 31 January. John Silva and Esther Pryor report the series “will run pretty much as in years past. AND, if this current weather continues, we will probably have a few wet races!!!” Certainly a “chance of rain” is in the forecast for the first event of the series.
The long-running Central Coast series also extends into the new year. Two races remain on that calendar with both at the Fort Ord venue. Race days are this coming Sunday (3 January) and Sunday, 17 January.

UCI Masters Cyclocross World Championships in San Jose Postponed until 2017

2016 UCI Masters Cyclocross World Championships-San Jose – Postponed until 2017.
Micah Rice the USAC Vice President of National Events and SuperPro had several in depth discussions that included the concerns we are hearing from many corners. The back and forth between the UCI, USAC and SuperPro has taken up several days and there are many concerns and rule sets to be addressed. The end result is a runway that is too short to land a plane this big. We all decided together that it would be for the best if we postpone the race until the following January. There simply is not enough lead-time to get something this big and this complicated (not to mention adding that special SuperPro flavor) ready in the six weeks we have left. Two weeks less than that if you consider the holidays.
We can positively guarantee you though that the event we put together will be seamless and so full of awesome cyclocross action that you too will need a full year to prepare for it so thank you in advance for supporting us in this difficult decision.

Marty Woy and the GHETO CX/NorCal CX/WSCXGP syndicate are running a survey to check the affinity of NorCal Nevada’s cyclocross community for events that earn USAC-points. Though currently they are Sacramento-centric, the efforts of Woy and Co produce good vibes at WSCXGP, Gheto mid-week pick-ups, Rodeocross mid-week night racing, and SacCX. Their influence has moved east over the big hill toward Reno’s Sagebrush Series. They wish to contribute to the entire community-at-large and help grow the sport further. Hidden Valley Next for Sagebrush

The second event for the Sagebrush Cyclocross Series is on tap this Saturday, 3 October. Hidden Valley Park is the venue and features a big stair run up plus a decent vista over Reno/Sparks. More details appear on the Sagebrush web page.
Last year, Teal Stetson-Lee (Luna Chix) took the win for Women’s A, followed by Ellen Sherrill (Rock Lobster) and Karen Brems (Team Rambuski Law). After rubbing shoulders with Chris McGovern (Real Wheels), Walton Brush triumphed in the Men’s A race ahead of Curtis Smith (Sierra Nevada) and then McGovern.
Three Days for The Cup

This season’s Bike Monkey Santa Rosa Cup CX is a three-day event and begins with a night race on Friday, 13 November. Racing starts at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds with reverse courses for Friday and Saturday. A mere 5 miles away, entrants can then close out their battles to earn “The Cup” with the return of Spring Lake Regional Park, on the Sunday.
Overall winners of the series receive cash payouts that are equal for both genders. More race entries equate to higher prize monies. Registration also governs how well the organizers can meet their gender-equity goal. Competing in the same category for all three races is a requirement to qualify for an overall prize. “Our goal is to get as many people there for all three races,” said CX Nation’s Brian Staby.

Dirt Birds Spread their Wings

Last Saturday’s West Sacramento Cyclocross Grand Prix, presented by Cederon, was an outstanding reflection of the NorCal Nevada cyclocross community. The City of West Sacramento, Matt Hargrove, and NorCal CX organizers worked hard to put on this festival-event. Sponsors, food trucks, music bands, local businesses, and many, many individuals shed blood for the cause. And, the day saw nearly 400 starts across the categories of competitive racing.
In a cyclocross version of a cotillion, introducing themselves for their new team and in their new kit, were racers in the Women’s ranks from Dirt Birds!
This brand new team had fifteen of its 23 members put their rubber down onto the WSCXGP course, including co-founders JT Teerlink and Audrey Biehle racing in Elite Women. Many members, whether they raced or not, volunteered at the event. The team itself spans the entire gamut of categories from Master 35+ to single speed to Juniors. Riana Young and Parker Miller each earned podium finishes that day for the Under-19 and Under-15 Junior Women’s races, respectively.
